Sketchbook scan. I did the creepy doctor first, then the kid, then the dog, then the cart o' doom. I'm planning to composite them and do a digital paint in the near future.
Right now I'm just looking to get some rest.

Ug, another late-ish post. SIGGRAPH is pretty cool, but it is a bit more on the technical side than I'd hoped (although as technical as I had suspected). Went to some cool presentations, and did some research on interviewing companies. It was cool to see Academy of Art's booth there, as it was pretty nice. There were a lot of other cool stuff, and I'll try to document it a bit more at some later point. Anyway, here's a weird horned-octopus-man-thingy.

I was born 27 years ago on this day. Tired from the flight and waking up for work at 6am with no hot water. At least our hotel at the conference is uber.

In lieu of a digital painting, here is a craft project I made today at work.
Today at work I decided to make a Edward Cullen inspired paper bag sock monkey while I was demoing PS' Paper Bag Sock Monkey kit. Why I decided to do a Edward paper bag when I have no interest in Twilight I have no idea, but I think it's pretty awesome anyway.
I used a Brilliance ink pad to give him a bit of "sparkle" (in retrospect I should have used it before I put the face on...), and then I also put him in a blue jacket or sorts (with flipped-up lapels seen in the last photo) that I found when I was looking up reference for him. I added little breast pockets and cuff straps and used snaps for the buttons.
The hair I cut by hand with scissors, and I used a #2 Red micron for the lettering and did a fill with the new watercolor pencils.
I probably could have spent more time on the sign (so it's not all squished on the bottom), but alas the store was getting busy and I wanted to get it done.
And btw, if you want to buy some cool sock monkey kits for some kids you know you can head over to Paper Source to pick up everything you need here to make your own inspired sock monkey paper bag thing.
Btw, if you are wondering what paper colors I used, it was lake for the jacket (although I might do night if I make another one), cement for the snaps and t-shirt, the eyes, mouth, ears, and hands were all part of the kit (as was the bag), and I used Platinum Planet Brilliance ink for the "sparkle." I still say vampires should burn to death in the sunlight, but whatever.

Ever inspired by my partner, I decided to do a quick paint using some of the themes that Eve uses throughout her paintings. Overall, considering the time I spent on this one I'm pretty happy. Perhaps I'll work on this a bit more in the future..

Taxi! Figured I'd loosen up a bit with some graphic work. I must admit, it is a lot more fun than going crazy with rendering and whatnot..

Waaa, almost late with this one. Sorry, Eve and I took a short jaunt to San Mateo to drop off some of her prints at Sweet Breams, a place that sells art and mini-taiyaki. Woo!

A bit more work done on "The Chase." I added the bridge, darkened some values, etc., etc. Still a long way to go, but I'm going to try and work on it at least once a week until I'm happy.
PS - Thank you to everyone who came out to the show! I'm exhausted and ready to pass out, but it was awesome! I hope you feel the same (about the awesomeness, not the exhaustion).

07/10/10 - Alien/ation
They're coming!!!!!!!
Who is coming, you might ask? Hyphen and Paper Hat Productions, that's who, and we're taking Space Gallery by storm!
Yes, tonight is the night where awesomeness will be had at 1141 Polk St. (@ Hemlock) from 7-midnight. Bring cash, since it's a cash only bar, and bring credit cards, since the artwork on the walls is off the hook. So yeah, get on that and really, if you read this and haven't met me personally, please stop by and say hi. I'm a pretty friendly guy and would love to meet you!
Awesome, see you tonight for the Art Riot Extravaganza!

I absolutely NEVER draw the stereotypical babe-in-the-wilderness type stuff (I'm possibly the exact opposite of Frank Cho, who is damn good at what he does), but I figured since I never do it, I should at least do a quick sketch of one once in my life. Here it is, most likely never to be finished.
And no, the symbolism is not lost on me.
PS - Tomorrow night (ie. July 10th) is the Alien/ation show that Eve and I are putting on. We'd really love to see you there, and you'll get to see my new body of work. Woo! We also appreciate RSVPing on our Facebook event page. Thanks!

Admittedly, this was not done today, but I figured I'd post this little poorly-shot photo of part of this piece for the show. It's title is "Inner Demons I." The painting is actually a bit longer, with better cropping, but I was in a hurry to snap this photo before I had to run to the gallery to hang my stuff. Once again, it'll be part of my contribution to the Hyphen Magazine x Paper Hat Productions Alien/ation show at Space gallery. The show is on July 10th, and I'll be live paintings, so I really hope you show up and say hi! Really, I like meeting people, so say hi!

Ug, sorry I was late again today. Lame.
Anyway, the above left sketch is something I whipped out in my sketchbook as a quick basic sketch for one of my paintings. The one on the right is a 5-min digital paint, so you can see basically what's going on.
Since we hang for our Alien/ation show tomorrow, I'll do my best to take some pics of the finished piece for tomorrow or the next day.
